Tracing Gastown - An Urban Walking Tour
Thursday, July 23 at 4:30 pm to 7 pm
Join Architects and Design Consultants on an hour-long walking tour of Gastown with industry professionals.
Led by Andrew Lockhart of Atmospheric Perspective Architecture and Peeroj Thakre of pH5 Architecture, this urban walking tour will explore the layered urban fabric of Gastown while contemplating the evolving experiential qualities of the neighbourhood.
Starting at Maple Tree Square where Powell, Alexander, Water and Carrall Streets intersect, the tour will highlight unique relationships of the neighbourhood's buildings and places to the public realm and its evolving story across time. We will stop at several locations with short walks in between. The tour finishes with a social at one of Gastown's famous restaurant-pubs: Rogue Kitchen and Wet Bar (East Side Lounge).
All PSMA members and guests are welcome! Cost is $15 per person. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome on the walking tour. (Youth over 16 pay adult prices.)
About your presenters
Peeroj Thakre
ph5 Architecture Inc.
Peeroj Thakre is a principal and co-founder of ph5 Architecture Inc., a Vancouver studio with deep roots in Gastown. Her connection to the neighbourhood runs well beyond the studio walls, from being a summer tour guide as a student, to early-career temporary public realm installations and more recently, in 2020, ph5's Gastown Urban Design Study, a body of work that has since informed the City of Vancouver's Gastown Public Space Plan. She remains actively engaged in shaping the district's future as Urban Design Advisor to the Gastown BIA. ph5's portfolio spans urban design, architecture, and interiors — from vibrant community gathering spaces and public realm installations to complex building renovations — all shaped by the ethos of Being Together Better: a holistic, people-centred approach that honours the social, cultural, and historical character of each place.
